If you are like so many other smartphone users, then you sleep next to your phone at night.
Sure, this can be a good thing for a couple of different reasons, but today, and for the purposes of this article, we will be unleashing why you shouldn’t sleep next to your smartphone at night. In fact, if you have trouble sleeping in the first place, if you are a light sleeper or if your phone is always going off, then sleeping next to it is a horrible idea.
In bullet fashion, let’s drop those reasons, shall we?
Why Sleeping Next To Your Smartphone Is A Horrible Idea
- If you don’t have your phone on silent, or if a do not disturb mode isn’t activated, notifications, incoming calls and text messages could keep you up all night.
- You shouldn’t be playing on your phone (or other technological devices) before you go to bed. You know, if you plan on not tossing and turning the entire night. Cell phones are not a stimulus for sleep. In fact, the opposite rings true.
- If you are a master when it comes to hitting the snooze button in the morning, then you shouldn’t be sleeping next to your smartphone in the first place. After all, if it is out of reach, then you are forced to get up and turn it off, which could actually lead to you not trying to get an extra five to 10 minutes of sleep by hitting the snooze button. Folks, hitting the snooze button over and over again might feel like the right thing to do in the morning, but it can actually make you even more tired and groggy. Not to mention, it could make you late for work, but that’s a different story for a different day.
- One thing that people don’t do enough of is disconnect from the world. In this day and age, that task is becoming tougher by the day. Tablets, computers, TVs and cell phones are taking over. Every single day, people should be disconnecting from the world, and their screens, in some way. Not only could it lead to a person achieving a peaceful slumber, but it could eliminate some stress in the process as well. Simply put, if you are always on your phone/computer/tablet reading work emails or doing anything that is related to work, then you are going to be overwhelmed and feel stressed out. Therefore, at some point each night, drop the technological devices, stop worrying about work and pick up a book and read, or have conversations with your roommates.
The choice to sleep next to your smartphone is yours to make. However, if you plan on getting the most out of your sleep schedule, you might want to consider not sleeping right next to your phone. At the very least, you should put on a do not disturb mode during your sleeping hours.
